Even in darkness there's beauty and the talented duo of CT-based Airen Miller Photography sought out to do so in this chic and modern Maleficent inspired wedding shoot. - Airen Miller Photography: Rockin', cutting edge non-conformtity, specializing in unique, unconventional imagery that moves you. Modern-Fashion-Couture-luxury meets punk-rock-shiek -
Airen Miller explains "Our inspiration: Disney Maleficent… such a different character, full of depth and intrigue… yet beautifully dark and luxurious. We were inspired that Disney was making a live action feature film about the dramatic queen, and staring Angelina Jolie…. how can you beat that!? We were struck to create a wedding style shoot with elements of the Maleficent character…deconstructed…not a simple cope of her, but the essence of her."
Purple and greens were used to create a very dramatic yet luxurious balancing between dark elegance, fanciful beauty.
Trish Miller has a background as a personal stylist, and draws a lot of inspiration from vintage clothing store and consignment shops. She was very involved in styling the main models as well as the detailed pieces such as the feather pocketbook. The black dress itself was a vintage piece by Uptown Consignments. Mel from Paramount Wedding Designs was instrumental in finding many of the table pieces which were also vintage finds.
Some of the Miller's favorite details are the vintage black dress, the use of feathers throughout the editorial, beautiful AZINE necklace and jewelry by CT designer Laleh Damiani, and of course the perfrect venue; Society Room in Hartford, CT with high cathedral ceilings and a vault…very castle like and mysterious, yet glamorous and decadent.
Airen Miller Photography consider themselves lovers of uniqueness and individualism. Expressing with much joy... "We are the black jellybeans in the jar of rainbow ones. Misfits, or one of a kind, we strive just to be ourselves, and live life as creatives. We are very honored and lucky to bring happiness and the freedom of expressive individualism to others through the images we capture for them, so THANK YOU!"

The Day of the Dead shoot was inspired by Jewel Photo owner Julie Turner's travels to Mexico. She fell in love with all the beautiful colors and wanted to bring the experience into her world of wedding arts.
She joined forces with Mexican makeup artist Veronica Nunes of Makeup by V who specializes in Dia De Los Muertos makeup. Working with someone who knew history and culture was perfect match!
The perfect wedding dress was from her favorite bridal shop The Wedding Dress in Portland and the owner Shelly Bailey fashioned the dress with a long black veil and and black velvet belt. So perfect! The Groom's outfit was less complex, but still smart in style. Especially the Bow Tie.
Jewel found the bridesmaids dress immediately while out and about at Jewel's favorite vintage store Never Say Goodbye in Middletown.
The set design came from items in the Jewel Photo Studio and vintage treasures from Never Say Goodbye. Fancy Nancy Designs pulled everything together to create the set design in total. Delectable cupcakes from Nora Cupcake Co. ended up bringing all the vibrant colors together. And they tasted super yummy!
My review of some favorite Lovesick vendors is very overdue, but better late than never! So much awesomeness that I took10min to stand on the balcony and take it all in. Tons of amazing everything and here are a bunch that I totally was digging... keep scrolling down :)

Welcome to MISFIT-WEDDINGS "Love with Attitude. Behavior with Heart". A blog that's focused on unique, creative, edgy, weird, and wonderfully different weddings (Real and Styled), venues, vendors, personalities and much more.
The blog will heavily concentrate on Connecticut with little sprinkles of Boston, New York and anywhere else the Misfit-Heart desires!
For those not familiar with the word "MISFIT" the definition is "a person whose behavior or attitude sets them apart from others...". I believe there are so many types of wonderful Misfits in the universe - mind, body, blood, heart, and/or soul! Here's a bunch of MISFITS I adore (only to name a few or six...) --->
Who's behind MISFIT-WEDDINGS you ask?? Hi, my name is Amylu ¸♥ ¸•*•I'm a Gemini and left handed. Sometimes a bad speller and still do math on my fingers. I love music, movies, launguages, books, works of art (all types of media) and colors (even though I mostly wear black). I'm be a big dork, snort when I laugh and love DIY projects. Oh ya, and I'm a natural Misfit at heart!
For over 15yrs I've been producing and promoting events in the underworlds of New York City, parts of Europe, and other U.S. cities. I grew up in East and West Hartford, Connecticut and have lived in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Madrid, Spain. I moved back to Connecticut and started working with all sorts of clientele on various events including weddings. Fast forward 2yrs......I met some awesome Misfit-minded people gettin' hitched, taking photos for "modern" weddings, producing underground events in raw spaces, sellin', bakin', and buying cool stuff, creating indie works of art, and just plain thinkin'" Misfit" thoughts. Soooooo before my brain busted open I decided to put it all in one place!
......................... Completely original idea? Nope. Do I care? Nah!.......................
I'm an avid reader and big fan of many misfit-ish wedding blogs, websites, events and personalities like Rock n' Roll Bride (U.K.), Offbeat Bride (U.S.), Marry Me Ink (U.K.), The Lovesick Expo (U.S.), Rebel Belle Weddings (U.S.), Rustic Wedding Chic (U.S.), and Stone Fox Bride (U.S.). There's tons more, but these are ones I usually read daily ;-)
In addition to DIY art projects I love DIY event projects so I teamed up with some of those Misfit-minded people I've met in Connecticut to produce Fusion Union - Not Your Mother's Wedding Expo! Can you guess what it is?? Check out the website link and teaser video below. I'll blog about it more later ;-)
CHECK BACK LATER for more misfit-WEDDING action
